Here’s where this project started. We were presented with a deck that has had a long life, and been exposed to many harsh Canberra summers and winters.

We always aim for perfection. Hope you like it!

On this project the owner elected to keep the existing deck frame. We inspected it carefully: although appearing weathered and aged from many harsh Canberra summers and winters, the structural timbers were still sound. Retaining the frame saved the client money and reduced waste, while allowing us to deliver a beautiful, renewed deck in time for Christmas.

We were presented with a deck that had clearly had a long life and had been exposed to extreme seasonal conditions. Boards were uneven, warped and splintering — a safety and aesthetic concern for the household.

We removed the old decking boards and laid new, high-quality merbau throughout. Merbau is a durable hardwood well suited to Canberra’s climate, offering good stability and an attractive finish. The new boards look great and provide a solid, even surface.

The final deck was freshly oiled and looks fantastic — warm, consistent colour and a surface that will wear well with regular maintenance. By keeping the sound original frame, we achieved a cost-effective, environmentally sensitive refurbishment without compromising on quality or timing. The homeowner now has a renewed outdoor space ready for summer gatherings and a safer area for family and guests.
