The final deck, utilising composite decking boards for a very long lasting, low maintenance and hard wearing finish.

The Starting Point

The original deck that was built here had significant structural damage due to a lack of drainage and was unable to be saved. The first thing we did after removal of the damaged deck was grade the ground and install a drainage system.

We then got started on the new frame, ensuring adequate ground clearance to make sure the frame would not suffer water damage like the old deck.

Located in Ainslie, ACT, this deck replacement began as a necessary rebuild after the original structure suffered extensive water damage and mould. The previous deck had no effective drainage, and both frame and boards had absorbed so much moisture that rot made the whole structure unsafe and unsalvageable.

After removing the damaged materials, the site was regraded and a drainage system installed to prevent future water pooling. With the ground properly prepared, construction of the new frame started, this time set with adequate ground clearance so the structure would be protected from the issues that ruined the previous deck.

Laying the first boards is always an exciting moment on any project, and once the initial run was down the job progressed quickly. The new framing includes a small integrated storage area sized perfectly for the clients barbecue, providing both function and clean lines. The chosen colour for the deck complements this home and the outdoor space—subtle, warm and elegant.

For the final surface we used composite decking boards to deliver a durable, hard-wearing finish that will stand up to Canberra’s variable seasons. The finished deck blends practical durability with an inviting aesthetic, transforming the outdoor area into a usable, long-lasting space for entertaining and everyday living.
